Chevy Bolt EV Battery Size Review
The 2023 Chevy bolt EV battery-size powertrain consists of a permanent-magnetic electric motor, a 65-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and a single-speed automatic transmission. It delivers 200 hp and 266 lb.-ft. of torque, which should prove plenty for most drivers. Chevrolet rates the Bolt EUV’s driving range at 248 miles on a full charge, which beats all but a few affordable EVs—including its arch-rival, the Nissan Leaf.
Fortunately, it’s easy to keep a Bolt EUV fully charged with a standard 120-volt portable charging cord or a fast 240-volt Level 2 charger, either at home or on the go. The latter will recoup up to 25 miles of range per hour.

It’s also possible to use a public or private Level 3 charger to quickly regain more than 80 miles of range in about 30 minutes. In addition to providing an extra burst of range, a Level 3 charger can help maintain your vehicle’s health. It prevents the battery from discharging too quickly when you stop driving for long periods of time and keeps the liquid coolant inside of the cell packs at a healthy temperature.
The Bolt EUV’s larger proportions trade off a little of its speed and agility, but it still feels zippy on the road. Plus, its large windshield and glazed roof help it cope well with inclement weather. Chevy’s well-planned infotainment system, comfortable seats, and twin moonroof add to the appeal. I wish the EUV’s drive selector and USB connector placement were a bit better, though.
